İzmir Free Zone (İZBAŞ), one of İzmir’s key production and export centers, continues to attract domestic- and foreign-capital investment. The Chinese-capital Kaishan Group, one of the world’s leading compressor manufacturers, opened its factory built at İZBAŞ with a grand ceremony. The 20-thousand-square-meter, 20-million-dollar production facility will produce drilling equipment and compressors for geothermal power plants.

İZBAŞ’S STRATEGIC POSITION

Speaking at the factory’s opening ceremony, İZBAŞ İzmir Free Zone Founder and Operator Inc. Chairman of the Board Eyüp Sevimli said, “Kaishan, the new member of the İZBAŞ family that continues to be a center of attraction for domestic and foreign investors, has made an investment that demonstrates just how strategically our region is positioned for international industrial investments.”

Sevimli said they were pleased to have brought the facility, completed in one year, to İzmir.

He emphasized that the factory represents the transfer to Türkiye not only of production infrastructure, but also of high technology, engineering capacity and an approach to sustainable production.

CHINESE COMPANIES’ INTEREST IN TÜRKİYE

Sevimli added that the compressors and drilling equipment Kaishan will produce at its İZBAŞ factory, as it celebrates its 70th anniversary this year and operates in 18 countries, will be used in all industrial establishments and exported to different parts of the world. İZBAŞ Chairman Eyüp Sevimli said Kaishan’s production at İZBAŞ will contribute to employment and help Türkiye attain a stronger position in compressor production and exports, adding:

“As with every high value-added, environmentally responsible and export-oriented project, as the Board of Directors we gave this investment all the support we could. While promising Kaishan executives that our support will continue within our authority, I underline the welcome increase in Chinese investor companies’ interest in our country. I hope this interest continues to grow and commercial relations between our countries strengthen further. As the İZBAŞ Board of Directors, we are happy to take these steps together with you; we congratulate and thank everyone who contributed to completing the construction and installation of this important investment with the goal of zero workplace accidents.”

INVESTMENTS WILL CONTINUE

Kaishan Group Chairman Cao Ke Jian, speaking at the ceremony, recalled that they took their first steps in Türkiye in 2020 with geothermal energy investments in Manisa and Çanakkale. Thanking İZBAŞ executives for their understanding and assistance to Kaishan staff and contractor companies during construction of the factory, Jian said, “Kaishan’s investments in Türkiye will continue to increase. Our most important goal is to make our success sustainable by fully complying with the laws and regulations in Türkiye.”

Following the speeches, the ribbon of Kaishan’s İZBAŞ Compressor Factory was cut by the company’s senior executives serving in different countries, İZBAŞ Chairman of the Board Eyüp Sevimli, İZBAŞ Board Members and guests.

“THE BUREAUCRATIC PROCESS FOR İZBAŞ’S EXPANSION AREA

IS IN ITS FINAL STAGE”

Sevimli stated that very limited space remains in İzmir Free Zone, which has reached an occupancy rate of over 90%, for allocation to high value-added, export-oriented investments, and said that they continue to take strategic steps to make the Region’s success in trade volume and exports sustainable.

Drawing attention to the fact that İZBAŞ, located only 45 minutes from İzmir city center, is close to qualified workforce resources and that its integrated positioning with the Alsancak and Aliağa ports is a reason for preference among investors, Sevimli shared the following information about the expansion area that will increase the Region’s investment area by 10%:

“Our efforts to have our 153-thousand-square-meter neighboring plot incorporated into our free zone by the Presidency have reached the final stage. While we expect our application to our Ministry of Trade to be concluded shortly, our investment preparations to rapidly integrate our existing, flawlessly operating infrastructure into our expansion area are also continuing simultaneously. Once this land, which will increase our Region’s investment area by approximately 10%, is officially incorporated into our free zone, we look forward to giving good news in a short time to our domestic- and foreign-capital investors who have requested large-scale plots from us.”
