Construction has officially begun on the new production facility of China-based Kaishan Group, which has chosen İzmir Free Zone (İZBAŞ)—one of the most prominent industrial and export centers in İzmir—for its latest investment. The factory, to be built on a 22,000 square meter site, is expected to become operational within one year.
Founded in 1956 and operating in 18 countries, Kaishan will use its new plant in İZBAŞ to manufacture compressors used primarily in geothermal power plants and industrial facilities, and export them to various markets across the globe.
WHY DID KAISHAN CHOOSE İZBAŞ?
Commenting on the investment, Eyüp Sevimli, Chairman of the Board of İzmir Free Zone Founder and Operator Inc. (İZBAŞ), emphasized that one of the key factors in Kaishan’s decision to invest in İZBAŞ was access to a skilled labor force, in addition to the wide range of advantages the Zone offers to investors.
He noted that Kaishan’s investment represents more than just a manufacturing plant—it is a multifaceted transformation initiative, with significant implications for technology transfer, exports, and employment.
“İZBAŞ IS A STRATEGIC LOCATION”
“Having a globally established and powerful group like Kaishan choose İZBAŞ as an investment destination clearly shows the strategic value of our zone for international industrial projects. The facility, whose construction begins today, is not only about production infrastructure—it also marks the first step in transferring high technology, engineering capabilities, and a sustainable production approach to our country.
Once completed, this project will contribute significantly to local employment and help position Turkey as a key player in the export of energy technologies and industrial equipment.
The launch of the construction phase—the first stage of this long-term investment journey—is both a concrete and exciting milestone. As always, İZBAŞ is fully committed to supporting all high value-added, environmentally responsible, and export-oriented projects, including the Kaishan investment.”
INCREASING INTEREST FROM CHINESE INVESTORS
Sevimli also noted the growing interest from Chinese capital in investing in Turkey, emphasizing the strategic importance of Kaishan’s focus on exports and value creation.
He added that investor interest in İZBAŞ has been gaining significant momentum, with the zone currently operating at over 90% capacity. Referring to the 153,000-square-meter expansion area acquired in December, he stated that once integrated into the Free Zone, they will be able to offer fully serviced industrial parcels of a size and quality suited to attract even more foreign direct investment.
