Free Zones are defined as fenced-in areas in which special regulatory treatment exists for the operating users in order to promote exports of goods and services. Free zones offer more convenient and flexible business climate in order to increase trade volume and export for some industrial and commercial activities as compared to the other parts of country.

In our country, mainly in order to promote export-oriented investment and production, Mersin, Antalya , Adana-Yumurtalık , İzmir, Ege , Denizli , İstanbul Atatürk Airport, İstanbul Industry and trade, Avrupa, Kocaeli, Tübitak-Mam Technology, Bursa, Trabzon, Rize, Samsun , Mardin, Gaziantep and Kayseri Free Zones are in activity since 1987
İzmir Free Zone was established in 1997 and it is the fifth 5th greatest in Area, 10th greatest in Trading Volume Among 19 Free Zones.
